Doodlebug Design | Cute & Crafty Notebook Mini Album

I have fallen deeply and madly in love with all of the adorable icons in the Cute & Crafty Collection.  They are just so sweet!  One of my favorites is the little notebook... that cute smile is just fabulous! I decided to make a mini book using it as my inspiration.  Take a peek... 

I started with the Cute & Crafty Notebook SVG file, and edited it to take out the spirals so I could add my own using my binding tool.  Once I had the cover, I set to filling my book. For my pages, I used the Cute & Crafty Coordinating Petite prints pack.  If you're not familiar, these packs are full of fun tone on tone prints that work perfectly with the collection.   

I wanted to make this a more "all purpose" mini, where my previous 2 books were "scrapbooking" focused.  The Bits & Pieces were the perfect solution. I just love all the pieces in this pack!  Lots of flowers, tabs, labels.  So much to work with!  I also used some of the cut-aparts from the Happy Thoughts Cardstock, Chit Chat pieces and Odds & Ends.

I could not resist using some of the buttons from the Odds & Ends Pack... they just make me smile!  Also the big words from the Chit Chat pack are a fun way to embellish a page.

Doodlebug Design | Far Out Baby Shower Gift

My friend's daughter is expecting her first child... a little boy!  We are all so excited for them!  When I received the shower invitation and saw that the theme was outer space, I knew I had to use the new Doodlebug Design So Much Pun - Far Out Stamps to make her something!  I decide to make her a first year mini album, and a little box card featuring some cut files from the So Much Pun Collection.

I started with the So Much Pun Space Ship File which is available in SVG in the Lori Whitlock SVG Shop as well as in the Silhouette Store.  I worked with the flat file and transformed it into a box card.

I love this little alien!! I added a piece of transparency to the bubble part of the card to make it more sturdy.  I then added the little star and a speech bubble sentiment.  The card folds flat to fit in an envelope.

For the Album, I started by stamping all of the images from the So Much Pun Far Out Set a few times.  I heat embossed the images, colored them using my Copic Markers and cut them out using the coordinating dies.   For the cover, I created a little space scene with some of these images.

 Each page of the album is actually an envelope.  You can slide a photo into the top, making it look similar to an instant photo.  I added some stamped images to each of the pages.

On the back of each album page is a note card to record the baby's monthly statistics.  I created a page for the birth picture, then one for each of the first 12 months.  Here are some close-ups.  I used some coordinating Teensy Type Stickers to add the months.

The Far Out Stamps were really perfect for this project!

Doodlebug Design | Seasonal Welcome Sign

Do you decorate for the seasons?  I have friends who completely redecorate for each holiday, or season.  I don't go that far, but I do love to change things up a little!  I decided to make a fun welcome sign for my entryway that I could change each month.  

I started with a 40" x 8" whitewashed board.  I cut the letters from chipboard, then from the checked side of the Simply Spring Under My Umbrella paper.  I layered them to give them a little more substance and glued to the board. I then set to creating the "O" in welcome for each month using Doodlebug's fun cut files.  Each of the shapes used to form the "O" are attached with Velcro so they can easily be changed up each month.  I pieced together each shape using Dot Stripe Petite Prints and backed them with chipboard to make them more sturdy.

Doodlebug Design | Hap-pea National Scrapbooking Day

Happy interNational Scrapbooking Day! We are celebrating all day over on the Doodlebug Design Blog.  I hope that you're able to get into your craft space and create today!  I was lucky enough to find some time to play today...so I pulled out my Doodlebug stash and my Silhouette and got to work!  As soon as I saw the adorable little vegetables in the Hoppy Easter Cut Files Collection, I knew I had to create a card for my gardening friend!  I saw the pea file, and my mind started churning... I decided to make a 3D box card with it!  Take a peek...

I started with the Hoppy Easter Peas File to make the pea pod box shape and the Hap-pea Birthday sign.  I added faces to the peas (I used the faces from the Simply Spring Bees file)  It needed one more thing so I decided to add little birthday hats to the peas.  I made the hats using the Sweet Party Hats File from the Fairy Tales collection.   The card folds flat for mailing.  I know my friend will love it!  Are you using any Doodlebug Cut Files or Collections for a project today?  Make sure to tag Doodlebug Design on social media, we'd love to see your creations!

Doodlebug Design | Christmas Town Cut File Ornament

Hi Everyone!  Christmas is in full swing at our house, we are finally decorated and now the wrapping begins!  I love decorating our tree, looking back at the ornaments and remembering their stories.  I decided to create a new ornament this year, using one of the adorable Doodlebug Design Christmas Town Cut files... take a peek...

I used the Christmas Town Snowman Look Up file (SVG, Silhouette) to create a pattern for my ornament. First I sized the Snowman in Silhouette, then cut him from thin paper.  I used the paper pieces as a pattern and cut the Snowman from some fun Papertrey Ink Felt.  Then I just stitched him together!

I used some Doodlebug Sequins in Bubblegum and some seed beads for the cheeks.  The eyes and mouth are pieces of Beetle Black Doodlebug Sequins that I cut with a hole punch.

I wanted the arms to be a little more stable so I cut two of each arm and stitched them together, then stitched them onto the snowman body.

I added a swimming pool Doodlebug Sequin to the cute little bowtie and some tiny black buttons from my stash.

Finally I stitched the year on a scrap piece of felt and stitched it to the back of the ornament so we know what year it was made.  He look so cute on the tree!

Doodlebug Design: Petite Prints Desk Calendar

One of my all time favorite Doodlebug product lines is the Petite Prints! The Gingham Linen Petite Prints have always been a staple in my projects, so when the new Floral-Graph and Dot-Stripe Petite Prints were released, I was ecstatic!   I love using them as backgrounds and especially love them when working with the Doodlebug Cut files!   Each year I love to put together a calendar for my craft room, and no surprise, it is usually made up from Doodlebug goodies!  I got a head start on next year's calendar using the new Petite Prints and a number of Doodlebug cut files... take a peek...

This cute little calendar can sit on my table, and I love how easily it is to flip around and find a date!  Making it was really easy.  I started with 6 pieces of white cardstock each cut to 9.5" x 6".  Each piece was then scored halfway at 4.75".  To the inside of each piece of card stock , I added 2  pieces of Petite Prints that measured 4.25" x 5.5".  To make it into the star shape, I folded the cardstock pieces in half (with the petite prints on the inside) stacked them up, gluing them together to make a book-like form.  I then decorated the front cover with the year.  To make it into the Star, open it up so all of the pages fan out and clip the ends together with a couple of cute clips!

Now for the fun part, decorating each month!  I started with a print and cut calendar file from Lori Whitlock (SVG, Silhouette).  I un-grouped the file and resized it to fit into a 2.625" x 3.75" rectangle.  I then chose a fun Doodlebug Cut file for each month, which were all pieced together using the 6x6 Dot-Stripe Petite Print Pad.  Here are close ups of the pages...

Doodlebug Design: Sweet Summer Box Cards

Have you seen the Doodlebug Design Sweet Summer Cut Files?  They are just about the cutest files ever!  I love the fun and retro feel, they remind me of summers in the 1980s (yes, I have just dated myself...)!!  I decided to take a few of the files and make some box cards.  I just love box cards, they make such cute decorations!  Take a peek...

I used a combination of Gingham Linen Petite Prints and Sweet Summer papers to put these cards together.  I then added some stickers from the Sweet Summer Mini Icons and the This and That sheet and sentiments from the Sweet Summer Chit Chats Pack.  Here are close-ups of the individual cards...

Converting the files to be box cards isn't a hard process, below are some graphics showing how I converted the Radio card...

I started by resizing the base file so that it was a standard card size.  In this case the width was 5.5".

Next I ungrouped the file and created the "layers" of the box card.  In this case the center "layer" is the blue piece of the file  with the handle and buttons.  The front "layer is the face of the radio.  For the back piece, I made a copy of just the yellow portion of the front piece.

The blue piece of the original cut file had a small bump out on the bottom.  I want my card to stand flat so I cut this piece off using the knife tool in Silhouette.  You could also hand cut this piece.

To create the side pieces of my card, I drew a rectangle measureing approximately 1.9" high by 1.5" wide.  I added score lines .25" in from each side.  You could also hand score these lines.

To be able to adhere the center insert, I needed to add a couple of tabs to the sides of this piece.  I drew two triangles measuring 1" high by .375" wide, lined them up on the sides of the center piece and welded them to the sides.  Be sure to separate the buttons and handles pieces before welding.

Once all of this was done, I cut the pieces, and assembled the face of the radio and added the handle and buttons to the center.  To assemble the card, I created a box by gluing the sides to the front and back, making sure everything is aligned.  I folded the tabs of the blue insert forward, inserted it into the radio box shape and glued the tabs to the sides of the box, towards the front.

Doodlebug Design: Happy 4th of July!

Happy Fourth of July everyone!  To celebrate I decided to create a fun table centerpiece using the Yankee Doodle Wagon and Flower Cut files!  These files can be found in the Lori Whitlock SVG Shop (Wagon, Flower Cluster) as well as the Silhouette Store ( Wagon, Flower Cluster).  Take a peek...

I will admit, converting a 2D file to be a 3D project was a challenge, but it certainly was fun!  I was just so happy that it turned out like I had envisioned in my head!  For papers, I used some Gingham Linen Petite Prints in Ladybug, Bubble Blue, Blue Jean, Limeade and Beetle..  I also used Starry Stripes and Declaration Dots from Patriotic Parade;  Colors of Courage and Land that I Love from Patriotic Picnic; and Horsin' Around from Down on the Farm.  I embellished the wagon with some Red, White & Blue Star Sprinkles (side of wagon); Red, White & Blue Matte Sprinkles (wheels) and Silver Glitter Sprinkles (for the rivets) Here are some more close-ups:

I've put together some instructions on how I converted the Wagon and Flower Cut files to go from 2D to 3D in Silhouette.  I will say this is not a beginner project!  You do need to be comfortable with your Silhouette and it's design functions.

Below is how I assembled the flowers...

I started by curling the petals with the handle of a paint brush.  I then added glue to one of the petals next to the cut line, and overlapped the petals so that the flower formed a "bowl".  I did this for all three layers of the flower then stacked them, with some foam tape between the layers for more dimension.

For the stem, I took a piece of flower wire, bent it so there was a small circle at the top and inserted it through the hole in the center of the stacked flowers.  I wrapped floral tape under the flower to hold the wire in place.  I then added some of the greenery to the wire using floral tape.

I finished the flower off with a center that I borrowed from this flower in the Lori Whitlock SVG shop.
