Doodlebug Design | Great Outdoors Pop Dot Cards Tutorial

I have always loved creating projects with lots of dimension... whether it be a 3d project, layout or card! I also love making little "scenes" with all of the adorable Doodlebug icons.  I decided to combine all of my loves using the Great Outdoors Collection along with the Great Outdoors Doodle Stamps to create some fun pop dot cards!  Take a peek...

I started with the adorable bear and fishy from the Great Outdoors Doodle Stamps.  I find coloring so relaxing!!!!  I layered on some of the pine trees and a night sky using papers from the 6x6 pad for my grass, sky and water.  To finish, I added the Happy Bear-thday sentiment from the Chit Chat pieces.

When you look closely, you can see all of the dimension in the card.

Next I made a sweet little card using the Moose and bunny stamps.  I added some mountains in the background, along with more of the pine trees.

And here is a close up of the card's layers...

Would you like to make some pop dot cards of your own?  I have a quick tutorial showing how I pieced them together.  To start, I created some cut files for the base of the cards.  You can get them on my blog here.  If you don't have a cutter, you can still make them.  The dimensions of the base pieces are as follows...

White Cardstock - (cut 3) 4.25" x 5.5" rectangle - with a 3.25" circle cut from the center.
White Cardstock - Card Base 8.5" x 5.5" - Fold in half
Patterned Cardstock - 4" x 5.25 rectangle - with a 3.5" circle cut from the center

On the left are the white pieces that make up the card base.  For each layer I cut some of the Great Outdoors 6x6 papers to create waves and grassy hills.  I also added a piece of the stars paper to the card base.  It will show through the holes in the layers.  I added my stamped pieces to each layer.  On the right you can see how I attached the patterned papers to the backs.  A good way to see where you want to add all of your images is to stack the layers before you assemble your card so you can see how everything lines up.

Next you want to start adding your layers to create your scene.  I started with the back-most piece with the trees and grass.  I added pop dots (you can use foam tape, or nothing if you prefer)  I centered this piece on my main card base and attached.

I then added the 2nd layer directly on top of the first, making sure everything was lined up.  There are pop dots between these layers.  To end, I added the 3rd layer, also with pop dots.  To finish I added the chit chat sentiment to the card front.

This cards can be mailed, but you will need a slightly larger envelope to mail if you've added pop dots.  If you have a cut file for an A2 Envelope I would size it up slightly to accommodate the layers, or you could use a 5x7 envelope.

The best part is that you can use any of your Doodlebug Doodle Stamps or even the Icon and Mini Icon Stickers to create fun little scenes with these bases!  If you do use the files along with your Doodlebug collections, be sure to tag us on Facebook & Instagram.  We love to see your creations.  That's it for me today, thank you for stopping by to peek!

Doodlebug Design | Bloom Where You Are Planted Layout

Did you do any scrapping for International Scrapbook Day?  I always have grand plans to do multiple projects... and I'm lucky if one is completed!  I did get a chance to play with some of the Fairy Garden Collection and created a fun layout... take a peek...

I found these adorable pictures of my great niece picking wildflowers on Instagram and with her mom's permission I "stole" them!  I thought they would perfectly coordinate with the flowers and critters in the Fairy Garden Collection!  I created the cut file using my Silhouette, and the cut layers of grass using Lawn Fawn's Grassy Border Die and some petite prints.

I embellished with lots of goodies from the Odds & Ends pack.  It was fun to tuck some of the flowers, mushrooms and critters into the layers of grass!  I also scattered in some flowers from the Spring Garden Shaped Sprinkles.

I just love the cloud side of the Glowbugs Cardstock... I may or may not have multiples hoarded in my stash!  It makes the perfect background!  Now for something fun!  I've made this cut file available to you.  You can download it here from my blog.  If you create with it, be sure to tag me and Doodlebug Design on Facebook and Instagram.  We always love to see your creations!  That's it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek.

Paper Issues Happiness Insta Parade

Today is the Paper Issues Happiness Insta Parade over on Instagram!  Each participant has created a project about something that makes them happy.  We are trying to spread a little sunshine in these uncertain times!  It's been a while since I've done a layout, it was really fun to get back to it!  I came up with this layout featuring my daughter on spring break this year.  She was lucky to have an early break, before any travel or gathering restrictions were set in place.  She and a couple of friends went to Arizona to see the Grand Canyon.  Of course they stopped for some fun pictures along the old Route 66!  This picture was one of my favorites!

I used Doodlebug Design's I ❤️ Travel collection for my layout.  The Odds & Ends pieces and stickers were absolutely perfect!   Here are some close-ups...

How fabulous is that truck???  The whole scene definitely makes me happy.  Now a little thank you for hopping along... I created the YOU Make Me Happy cut file I used on this layout and it's available for free here.

Head over to the Paper Issues Instagram to start the hop!  That's it for me today , thanks for stopping by to peek!

Doodlebug Design | Pencil Pumpkin Patch

Halloween is almost here!  I still haven't purchased candy.... but I have a cute project that would be a perfect little gift for the kids, friends or even for the classroom!  Take a peek...

How cute are these little pumpkin pencil toppers??  I used the 3 pumpkin SVGs from the Doodlebug Design Candy Carnival SVG files available in the Lori Whitlock SVG Shop.  I pieced them together using a combination of the Doodlebug Candy Carnival Collection and some Petite Prints.

I added a few of the spider stickers from the Candy Carnival Mini Icons Stickers to embellish.

The pumpkins are attached to the pencil by this little Pencil topper base that I created.   You could attach almost anything to the pencils using this, such as stickers from the Icons Sheet or Odds & Ends Pieces.  These would make great classroom gifts if you're looking for a candy-free alternative.  All you need are some cute pencils which you can get online or at your local craft or office supply store.  You can download the pencil topper base for free here.  That's it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek!

Doodlebug Design | School Days Desk Calendar

Well school has finally started here in Massachusetts.  I have so many friends that are teachers, they  are all back full swing, meeting their new students and waking up so early!! I was thinking of them when I created this cute little perpetual calendar.  I though it would be fun to put on their desks, and change up each day.  Take a peek...

The calendar base is actually a side step card I modified to look like a chalkboard.  You can download the card base with easel Silhouette from my blog here.   I added a bunch of the icons from the Odds & Ends and the School Supplies Shaped Sprinkles to the right "steps", and then went to work on the calendar.

For the months I cut 1/2" strips of the graph side of the Spelling Bee Paper and added Teensy Type Letters in various colors.  They attach to the card base using 3/8" Velcro circles.   For the dates I cut 3/4" x 1 1/2" pieces of the loose leaf paper side of the School Days Paper and added Skinny Type letters in Blue Jean.  They clip to the calendar using a mini clothespin which I glued on using glossy accents for extra strength.

To hold all of the month and number pieces I added a little pocket to the back of the card base.  I thought this would be a great way to brighten a teacher's day!  Have you created anything using the School Days Collection?  Be sure to tag Doodlebug Design on Facebook & Instagram, we would love to see your creations!

That's all for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek!

Doodlebug Design | A Purr-fect Layout

My name is Kathy and I'm a crazy cat lady.   To most people this isn't really "news."  I am the mom to two very spoiled kitties... and since my daughter has been away at school and I work from home, I spend a lot of time with them. This means I have lots of pictures of them that really need to be scrapped.  I've been hording the Kitten Smitten collection for a while, so I came up with this layout of my quirky boy Jax.  Take a peek...

I created the Silhouette file for this layout, and backed the letters with some papers from Kitten Smitten, and some Gingham Linen Petite Prints and of course Jax.

I dug into the Kitten Smitten Odds and Ends and found the cute little black kitty, and the notepad paper for my journaling.  The mouse and the paw prints are from the icon sticker sheet, and the fishy clip is from the cute clips.

I embellished more with some word stickers from the This and That sheet and sprinkled some sprinkles around the letters.

I popped it all up to give it a little dimension.  If you'd like to use this file for your kitty pics, you can download the file from my blog here.  That's it for me today, thanks for stopping by to peek!

Doodlebug Design | Far Out Baby Shower Gift

My friend's daughter is expecting her first child... a little boy!  We are all so excited for them!  When I received the shower invitation and saw that the theme was outer space, I knew I had to use the new Doodlebug Design So Much Pun - Far Out Stamps to make her something!  I decide to make her a first year mini album, and a little box card featuring some cut files from the So Much Pun Collection.

I started with the So Much Pun Space Ship File which is available in SVG in the Lori Whitlock SVG Shop as well as in the Silhouette Store.  I worked with the flat file and transformed it into a box card.

I love this little alien!! I added a piece of transparency to the bubble part of the card to make it more sturdy.  I then added the little star and a speech bubble sentiment.  The card folds flat to fit in an envelope.

For the Album, I started by stamping all of the images from the So Much Pun Far Out Set a few times.  I heat embossed the images, colored them using my Copic Markers and cut them out using the coordinating dies.   For the cover, I created a little space scene with some of these images.

Each page of the album is actually an envelope.  You can slide a photo into the top, making it look similar to an instant photo.  I added some stamped images to each of the pages.

On the back of each album page is a note card to record the baby's monthly statistics.  I created a page for the birth picture, then one for each of the first 12 months.  Here are some close-ups.  I used some coordinating Teensy Type Stickers to add the months.

The Far Out Stamps were really perfect for this project!

I created a Silhouette Cut file for the pages of the album.  You can access it for free on my blog here.  That's it for me today, thank you for stopping by to peek!

Doodlebug Design | iNSD Cut File Exclusive

To celebrate interNational Scrapbook Day, Doodlebug has created a fun new cut file!  It is free today only,  here in the Lori Whitlock SVG Shop!

I got to play with the file a little early.  As soon as I saw it, I knew that I wanted to scrap some of my pictures from this year's Crop on the Cape!  Take a peek...

I had fun picking papers.  I used the 6x6 pads from a number of Doodlebug Collections.  I like the smaller pattern size for the letters.  I then set out to find embellishments to match my letters to add some tone on tone details to my design.

I finished it of with some stitching and some coordinating sprinkles!

Make sure to stop by Lori's shop today to get this fun file for free!  If you make something using the file be sure to tag #NSD2019DB so we can see it!   Make sure to check out the Doodlebug Blog, Facebook and Instagram all day today for challenges and giveaways!   I'll be back later today with another fun Doodlebug NSD project!
